Some mountain farmers have received state funds to help them recover from the floods of 2018. Of the roughly $10 million in a special aid package for Western North Carolina, nearly $6 million went to Henderson County.
Terry Kelley, with the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service in Henderson County, agreed it was a tough year.
"We lost 40 to 50 percent in our farm gate value in agriculture in Henderson County that year," Kelley said.
Kelley admits the $6 million of state aid split more than 100 ways doesn't come close to making up for the loss, but he and Vaughan said they are grateful to Sen. Chuck Edwards and Rep. Chuck McGrady, who helped get the money.
