Sen. Edwards Helps Improve Child Welfare System
In response to compounding problems in the child welfare system, Senator Edwards co-sponsored SB 693 that improves vital systematic functions and prioritizes child welfare and stability.
The bill shortens social services' deadline to schedule a permanency planning hearing from 12 to 3 months, mandates DHHS develop treatment plans for removed children struggling with their mental health, establishes a statewide Child Protective Services hotline, and requires Grades 6-12 be educated on child abuse and neglect.
