Sen. Chuck Edwards Recognized with Defender of Public Safety Award by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association

Raleigh, N.C. – Sen. Chuck Edwards (R - Henderson) has been recognized as a 2021 Defender of Public Safety by the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association for the important work he has done during the 2021 legislative session to protect public safety in North Carolina.
During a session that saw a heavy concentration of law enforcement and public safety-related reform bills, Senator Edwards dedicated time and effort advocating for important law enforcement issues which impact the office of sheriff, local communities, and the State.
Sheriff Ed McMahon, President of the Association, stated, "Senator Edwards took a leadership role in advancing the legislative priorities of the North Carolina Sheriffs' Association, which represents all 100 sheriffs in the State. As a result, our sheriffs can be assured the profession of law enforcement will be able to recruit and retain individuals who will serve our communities with integrity, and we are better equipped to protect the lives, liberties, and property of North Carolina's citizens."
Senator Edwards' legislative district is served by:
  • Sheriff Quentin Miller - Buncombe County
  • Sheriff Lowell S. Griffin - Henderson County
  • Sheriff David Mahoney - Transylvania County
Upon receiving news of the award Sen. Chuck Edwards remarked, "There has never been a more important time to support our law enforcement. These brave men and women - and their families - make daily sacrifices to protect life and property, and enhance the quality of our lives. It is one of my highest honors that my support of these heroes from the NC Senate floor has been recognized by the NC Sheriffs' Association."
Throughout the 2021 legislative session, the General Assembly considered hundreds of bills and enacted dozens of laws that had a direct impact on law enforcement and public safety in North Carolina. Senator Edwards' advocacy and support of such laws have preserved and improved law enforcement practices and communities across the State.
